:- 1.0 out of 5 stars from Bev -- Disappointing book : I purchased this book with the hopes that it told a message of friendship and acceptance. This book did not live up to my hopes. The illustrations were nice. However the storyline was consistently ‘don’t judge me by my face’ and I felt that was a poor choice of wording for little ones listening to this story. If I had known that this phrase was on every page, I would NOT have ordered the book. I wish the author had just used the words ‘will you be my friend’ and left out the ‘don’t judge me’ defiant phrase. When the pumpkin finally found acceptance w the witch i thought ‘that’s all to the story ?’ Ugh. The author could have written a friendship page or two with the witch but nope - not even close. This is not a warm and fuzzy book at all. I will cut out some of the illustrations and use them for scrapbooking. ( Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2021 )

This book will help show kids that what matters is what's on the inside. And it's perfect for this time of year! The illustrations are perfect for Halloween time. I have two young children ages three and four and they enjoy this book very much. Its important to teach children from a young age that it is not nice to judge others by their looks and we have to give everyone a chance and look beyond their appearance. At the end of the tale the witch was able to gift the pumpkin with a “smile” but the pumpkin wanted something more, which was friend. Isn’t that what we’re all seeking for….a friend. For children it’s extremely important for the book to have repetitive lines so it’s easier for them to remember. Another great thing about this book is the amazing Halloween illustrations.
